Tumult is building the next generation of apps for web design. We capture the bleeding edge of web browser technology into tools used by top creative pros. Knowing a great artist can only become great when using the right tool, we value flexibility, precision, and simplicity.
Our initial product, Hype, has been used to produce HTML5-based animations, infographics, ebook educational content, games, personal web pages, and everything in between. Hype has been off to a great start in its first year of life; it has won the Macworld Editor’s Choice award, received multiple features by Apple in the App Store, and received tremendous praise from its users. Our user base is quickly growing, and our users are some of the best on the planet — they’re creative, talented, and passionate about making the best content possible.
Founded by two Apple veterans, Tumult is backed by Y Combinator. Aside from some cushion funding, we’re proud to have bootstrapped a profitable company. Our team is based in San Francisco, working out of a one-of-a-kind office in Hayes Valley. Our office is laid back and comfortable; our team is skilled and driven. We love shipping award winning apps, supporting our users, and discovering the future of the web.
If any of these positions catch your eye, please send your résumé, along with a quick introduction describing yourself, to [email protected]. If you’re able, please also include links to any open source projects you’ve created or contributed to, or provide examples of apps you’ve worked on.

You must be artistically talented and highly creative — artists, designers, and animators will look to you as a community leader and see your work as examples of what can be accomplished with Tumult Hype. Responsibilities include creating icons and graphics for the application, producing beautiful demo content, creating tutorial videos, and developing website/marketing materials. You will be directly involved in the design and future direction of Tumult Hype. You’ll also be living on the bleeding edge development builds as our in-house pro user, communicating workflow issues or bugs with engineering.
We need an experienced, creative, and talented engineer to drive our current and future products. As Tumult’s Software Architect, you’re expected to brainstorm, design and implement new Hype features. You must be abreast of the latest standards and always working to keep Hype two steps ahead of the competition. Beyond Hype, we expected you to kick off and help lead new products, to begin assembling a world-class engineering team, and to establish engineering practices and infrastructure that help ensure we continue shipping delightful, best-of-breed apps. Finally, as an early hire, you will help define the culture of the company.
